Ruqya

What is Ruqya?

Ruqya is a powerful form of healing using the words of Allah (Qur’an) and authentic supplications (duas) from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It involves reciting specific verses and prayers for spiritual, physical, and emotional healing — often used to treat conditions such as evil eye (ayn), black magic (sihr), envy (hasad), and jinn possession, as well as physical ailments like headaches, fatigue, or unexplained illnesses.

Unlike cultural or superstitious practices, Ruqya Shar’iyyah (legislated Ruqya) follows the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah, relying solely on Allah’s words and power for healing. It can be performed by a practitioner or as self-Ruqya — a personal and empowering way to seek relief and protection while strengthening your connection with Allah.

Self-Ruqya

At our clinic, we encourage everyone to incorporate Ruqya regularly into their lives as a means of spiritual protection and healing. While we do not perform Ruqya on others during Hijama treatments, we highly recommend that clients recite self-Ruqya during their session. Doing so enhances the experience on a mental, emotional, and spiritual level, aligning the physical detoxification of Hijama with the powerful spiritual cleansing of Ruqya — all while placing your trust in Allah’s ultimate healing.

Ruqya Verses

Here are the Minimum Ruqya Quraanic Verses that can be recited for yourself regularly, especially for protection, healing, or breaking affliction such as sihr (magic), ayn (evil eye), or hasad (envy). These can be recited with the intention of Shifa’ (healing), protection, or lifting harm, followed by blowing over yourself (or water, oil, etc.):

Al-Fatihah (Surah 1)

Recite 7 times
This is known as the greatest healing chapter in the Qur’an. It was used by the Sahaba to cure illness.

Ayat al-Kursi – Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255)

Recite once or more
A powerful verse for protection, especially before sleep and after each prayer.

Last Two Ayahs of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:285–286)

Recite once or more
Protective and spiritually uplifting, the Prophet ﷺ said whoever recites them at night, it suffices them.

Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas (112–114)

Recite each 3 times
These are known as Al-Mu’awwidhatayn (verses of refuge). Recite them morning, evening, and before sleep.

Surah Al-Baqarah (entire chapter or parts of it)

Optional but highly effective
Even just playing it in the home or reciting parts of it (e.g., the first 5 verses and last 2 verses) weakens the effect of sihr and jinn

Additional Verses Used in Classic Ruqya

These verses can be added for specific ailments:

  • Surah Al-A’raf (7:117–122) – Against sihr
  • Surah Yunus (10:79–82) – Against magic
  • Surah Taha (20:65–69) – Against sihr and falsehood
  • Surah Al-Mu’minun (23:115–118) – Against evil eye and illness
  • Surah As-Saffat (37:1–10) – Protection against jinn
  • Surah Al-Hashr (59:21–24) – Glorification and healing names of Allah
